Game B – the infinite joy of variation – Juan Petry – Edition 1 – 2021
The job of art is to ask the right questions.
GameA is the description for the current world and its civilization. GameB names the other, the better, the evolutionary different. The classic game as a civilisational companion of mankind then probably belongs to GameA. It is characterized by the setting of the playing field, game objective, rules of the game and the course of the game.
This GameB goes beyond that. There are no limits to the number of players, the playing fields, the moves, the rules of the game or the possible course of the game.
GameB starts with two players, a playing field, a set of rules and a goal. But it is expandable in all its dimensions.
Ruleset #1
§1 Each player has two gaming pieces of the same color. In preparation, the pieces are placed individually on empty spaces (rectangles). The youngest player begins. If there are several playing fields available, these are shuffled face down and distributed. Players then alternately add the fields. The oldest player begins.
§2 Every game round begins with each player writing down a number between 1 and 9. The player with the highest number starts. If numbers are the same, the youngest player begins. In following rounds, the player who did not start in the previous round will begin.
§3 The numbers of all players are used to calculate the sum and the product and the checksums of both.
§4 The two checksums indicate the range of moves for both players. Each player can decide to make one move with each of his play stones or both moves with the same stone.
§5 A move of length 3 means that the play stone has to jump over two rectangles connected by a line and is placed on the third space. The aim of the first move is to land on one of the other players pieces (to receive 1 point), provided that this stone is not already blocked by another piece. The aim of the second move is to end up on your own piece (which blocks it for the other players moves).
§6 If hitting a blocked piece of another player is inevitable, the piece must be placed on the rectangular space in front of it. The player is losing one point. Negative points are possible. The players piece is then placed underneath the other piece.
§7 Up to 8 players, the game ends when the total number of points exceeds the result of this calculation: 40 divided by the number of players. The player with the lowest number of points wins. If there are more players, the number of points to be reached will be negotiated beforehand.
