Life in a mask - Natasha Russo - 2013 - 2021

Life in mask Series 2| toxic drawings
x of 100 | 2013 - 2021

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people wont feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. Its not just in some of us; its in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

This series was created in 2013 during the artists stay at CASAdelDRAGON in eastern Spain and was completed in the countrys capital, Valencia. Eight years later, the artist moved from the city to the countryside in the small mountain village of Cervera del Maestre, and with that she returned to CASAdelDRAGON. When moving, she finds this series, 100 black boxes.
During these times, Russos art is particularly strong. Her contribution to contemporary art is, in itself, a piece of art history. Now the strength can unfold. This work shows the intuitions of contemporary art. We are well advised to take a closer look.
