The FLUX:US Project 2.0 2023 – Mail Art – CRIPTALIA
Per definition:
Mail art, also known as postal art and correspondence art, is an artistic movement centered on sending small-scale works through the postal service. It initially developed out of what eventually became Ray Johnsons New York Correspondence School and the Fluxus movements of the 1960s, though it has since developed into a global movement that continues to the present.
This type of art had already spread rapidly in the DADA era. Mostly from artist to artist, this form of participation was direct, simple and barrier-free: no costs, no curators, no intermediaries.
Thus, Mail Art was also a social sculpture in the sense of Beuys, even if it wasnt called that yet. The artist in association with the others was author, viewer, mediator, collector at the same time. Many famous artists after 1910 were active in Mail Art.
This work is a cut-out of submissions from artists around the world. The MUARCO project as an interactive participatory social sculpture takes up the momentum of the fresh contemporary international art scene and uses ARTSURPRISE to increase the number of creative Mail Art artists.

About the artist of this work in your hands:
„CRIPTALIA is a visual artist and illustrator from Sao Paulo, Brasil. She believes art has to be in constant movement at democratic circuits, and mail-art is one of the most politically consistent tool for art exhibition and information exchange (in her words). I was flashed by what she was sending to me in late 2022, amazing artworks, black and white on paper and on fabric. I would like to see much more of her art in Europe and will invite her for a solo show in the gallery of CASAdelDRAGON (Juan Petry, Curator).“
