„suddenly it happend – my cute monster“
In 2011, the Artsuprise project was able to place one of the machines in the foyer of the picture book museum in Troisdorf.
The important and famous museum represents a hotspot in Europe for book illustration and book design aimed at young people and children and is a much-visited place in the region.
The museum management came up with the idea of addressing children and young people directly, so a special section was set up for childrens paintings and childrens drawings.
The machine offered the option of having these art categories compete against the others (painting and drawing). The result was interesting.
Although the museum is primarily visited by young people interested in art, and these too are primarily interested in buying contemporary art when they discover the vending machine in the museum, the „conciliation of customers with their wallets“ was clear.
The little creative visitors would rather buy the art of the „big“ adult artists.
This does not detract from the experiment. As a result of this observation, the art of the young artists has now found access to all points of sale in the project and is then also valued by the „adult art lovers“.
As Picasso already put it, it is the artists task to remain a CHILD. This is what „true art“ is all about.
