Casa del Dragon - Artist Residence Center in Cervera del Maestre, Castellon (Spain)
The house of the dragon (Casa del Dragon) is located in the village of Cervera del Maestre, in the region Baix Maestrat between Benicarló and San Mateo. Based on Iberic prehistoric culture, the Romans and a lot of other conquerers, the region is full of history, old castles, ruins and 1000 years of farming traditions and infrastructure (norias, aquaducts).
The house of the dragon has got its name from the dragon which warms itself around the wall and the chimney. The Casa del Dragon is conceived as house of encounter. It will bring artists from the region together with artists from all over Europe, it offers space for cooperation, for workshops, for exchange of ideas and intercultural projects.
The house, rebuilt over 20 years from 1987 to 2007, has welcomed more than 100 creative people over the time and in the past five years, 2-6 art exhibitions per year have taken place.
One of the most important and special missions of the artist residence is to invite artists and helpers to live together in a "temporary, time-limited community". They live together, they cook and eat together and they work together, to develop new art projects and to generate social networking.
